At their peak in the mid-20th century, drive-in theaters were the perfect place to catch a flick from the comfort and privacy of your car.
Many of you may have missed the “good old days” of the drive-in theaters (and today’s movie-going experience is in many ways vastly better) but there was a time when this was the best way to see a movie. We went often when I was a kid in high school, sneaking in friends, beer, and candy in the trunk.

Funny I went to the Drive-In theatre 20 mins drive from my house just last Saturday. They had Lion King playing on two screens at once, they’re currently expanding their candy bar as well. They’re absolutely killing it! The family loves going there too!
My sister and I would get so excited when our mom made popcorn and put us in our pajamas. We knew we were going to the drive-in. I remember seeing a Disney double-feature of Song of the South and Old Yeller. My sister and I were fast asleep well before the end of Old Yeller. Pretty sure I saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in a drive-in during its original theatrical release.
Pajamas and popcorn in the front seat of the Lincoln (which was wide enough to easily accommodate two adults and two little kids). Great memories.
e had a functioning drive-in here up until just a few years ago. Profitable till the end, showing first run movies to enthusiastic crowds, the operation was sold to land speculators in a bid to create yet another big box store that never materialized. I expect condo sprout very soon.
