Walt Mossberg and Katherine Boehret got their hands on that very first iPhone before it went public, back in June of 2007.
The linked review is a fun look at that very first model. Can’t help but be amazed at how far we’ve come. Great read.

“It isn’t for the average person who just wants a cheap, small phone for calling and texting.” How wrong this prediction proved to be for Walt. The average person quickly understood how essential this phone was, once they got their hands on it. Not sure if Walt lacked faith in the average person or Apple, to make this claim.
If the iPhone did nothing but kill Adobe Flash…that alone would have made it a hugely successful product.
Under missing features:
“Its otherwise excellent Web browser can’t fully utilize some Web sites, because it doesn’t yet support Adobe’s Flash technology.”

Thanks Apple. Thank you Jobs.
