Apple is bringing Xbox and PlayStation 4 controller support to the iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV this fall. It’s a big change from the select MFi Bluetooth controllers that were supported before, and it means you can now easily connect any PS4 or Xbox One controller to your device to play games on the go.
Big fan of this move by Apple.
I’ve been trying out an Xbox One S controller (with Bluetooth support) on my iPad Pro running the new public beta, and I’m convinced this is a big step toward using an iPad as a portable game console.

All good. But makes me wonder, will Apple ship Apple Arcade games compatible with the PS4 and Xbox One controllers? If so, I think that would help make Apple a very important player in this space. Grab your iPad and favorite controller and play, with consoles or without.

I haven’t played console games in a very long time.
Does this mean I can put a console/controller and an Apple product in the same Wi-Fi network, and play games off of the Apple product’s screen? or is Wi-Fi not a factor/requirement at all?

I don’t see how he’s depending on the console. He can stream Xbox games using an app, but mainly he’s playing iPad games with an Xbox controller, isn’t he?

But do you need your own physical console, whether it be Xbox or PS4, turned on with a disc loaded and spinning, and with a stable internet connection to the outside world, in order for the setup to work while you are out and about?

I see people playing iPad games (Fortnite on iPad) with this controller. Of course not all games support it at the moment but many did.
Bluetooth.
I like the idea of doubling up the iPad Pro as a gaming screen. Work and play on the same device. Wish this was available when I was a high school/college kid!
