Jonny Evans lays out the myriad ways in which Apple Maps has gotten better. Terrific read.
One specific feature I’ve noticed is the addition of traffic lights and stop signs in iOS 13. Apple Maps is definitely getting much, much better.

I’ll read the article when I get home from taking my kid to school, but I’m looking forward to Maps improvements. There’s one intersection near my home where Apple Maps is convinced left turns aren’t allowed, and it causes the first km of any trip starting here (or the last km ending here) to be crazy.
What I hate about Google Maps is that it’s very good at searching but not great at helping me navigate. So, when I load it up I’m greeted with all manner of things in the area to explore but where are my destinations? Hidden behind a number of menus.
Wouldn’t it be good if I could pin my destinations and get to them in a tap rather than be peppered by an array of restaurants, hotels and bars? Sure those places may come in handy but sometimes I just want to get home.
If Apple Maps can put the user front and centre I’d give it another go.
