Apple:
Power to change everything. Say hello to a Mac that is extreme in every way. With the greatest performance, expansion, and configurability yet, it is a system created to let a wide range of professionals push the limits of what is possible.
Along with the usual tech specs, Apple has posted a video of the new and utterly insane Mac Pro. It’s a machine that literally 99% of us don’t need and probably can’t afford. But the power of this beast is stunning. Apple hasn’t released full pricing yet but I’ll bet a fully maxed out machine and monitor will cost well north of $25K.
Apple needs Jony Ive even if it is only for his voice and narration skills ! ?
Even more aspirational than before. Even if Apple could somehow guarantee that this new Pro would be the last desktop computer I’d ever need to own, I still couldn’t justify it.
I was hoping that new monitor stand might be adaptable for use with an iMac 27″ VESA we have here, but at $999 for the privilege, the point is moot.
You’ll need AI support just to decide on the configuration you’ll want. Either that or Marco will spend 6 weeks doing the analysis.
If it maxes out at $25k this year wait until they introduce denser SSD and then it’ll max out at $40k.
That’s just how the high end works.
I don’t see anything particularly insane about the pricing, though (other than the monitor stand). Configure what you need and buy only that. The $5999 base is not crazy considering the specifications and expandability, though it certainly is not cheap either.
There must be some serious R&D in that stand to justify the $1k price. I wonder if they were able to patent it.
It looks like pivot mechanism might be the successor to the lampshade iMac’s stand.
Ah, yes, lampshade.
I thought the lampshade iMac was butt ugly but it gave me my very first big “APPLE SCOOP!” back in the day so I have a soft spot in my heart for it. 🙂
