  1. The news that the new display is sold without a stand (a vesa mount costs an extra $200, the fancy stand they showed off costs a gobsmacking $1000) got a big round of boos.

As usual when Apple comes out with new pro hardware, you cannot get the equivalent of what they are selling from other companies, so it’s hard to criticize the pricing.

But leaving the fancy monitor arm off and charging an extra grand for it seems unusually gougey, even for Apple.

  2. If a lot of people aren’t going to use that stand it doesn’t make sense to ship it with every monitor. The prices are high relative to consumer norms, but for their target pro market these aren’t out of line.

  3. Oh there are already people on twitter whining about the price of the Pro. Never mind that almost none of these people are in the market segments that would use it, the important thing is that they whine about SOMETHING that Apple’s done.

  4. Especially silly is the way they focus on the high cost of the entry level system. That entry level system is not the reason the mac pro exists – the tricked out, insanely expensive high end version is the reason it exists. If you aren’t prepared to pay 20k or 30k for 28 cores and 4 gpus, you aren’t the kind of person the 2019 mac pro is for.

  5. Yeah, the $1000 stand seems crazy. I’m wondering if they’ll have some other stand included with it or available at a lower price. Maybe it’ll be up to third parties. Yuck.
