Apple today introduced the new iPod touch with enhancements to power, capability and communication at a remarkable price. The Apple-designed A10 Fusion chip brings improved performance in games, and for the first time on iPod, immersive augmented reality (AR) experiences and Group FaceTime, making it easy to chat with family members, friends or colleagues simultaneously.
Available to order now, in stores later in the week.
Interestingly, the iPod touch is not on Apple’s home page, even though most every other new product and service is there. There’s no iPod category along the top of the store, either.
No matter, my guess is, it’ll appear later today. In the meantime, here’s a link to the main iPod touch page. Pricing starts at $199 for the 32GB model, $299 for 128GB, $399 for 256GB.

I think Apple is deliberately not giving the iPod touch any exposure on the home page, at least not until the new services are completely rolled out. Even then, given the “limitations” vs. iPhone in exchange for a lower entry price-point, I think the iPod touch is more geared towards people who know exactly what they’re buying into.
For example, I’m considering one to interface with HomeKit in the living room. I have to figure out how to secure the home Wi-Fi network first, though.
I’m still very grateful for the existence of iPod touch, with which I economically got into using iOS before moving up to my first iPhone. I’d very much like to know how many are being sold these days.
An iPhone without the phone! I think I have a new thing to hand my Granddaughter when she asks for my phone. No more Barbie Princess Dress Up Super Makeup advertising platforms asking for access to my contacts on my phone any more! That’s a good thing.

I think last time they bumped the specs to A8 so it can play HD content and games, like the AppleTV then.
Now, they are probably upgrading so that it is powerful enough to run AR/VR, games, etc. for the new subscription-based services. Did the former version support AirPlay2?
This iPod touch is more like a “dumbed down” version of the latest, entry-level iPad without touch ID or first-gen Apple Pencil support, and a smaller screen, for $129 cheaper.
