  1. Who are others? I only ever see iPhones and Samsung phones when I’m out in public. Maybe that’s a U.S. thing and others are popular overseas…

  2. Symbian USED to be the leader in smartphones worldwide. Nokia was a big seller of Symbian smartphones internationally. Thats what I remember at least.

  3. Was Nokia really ever a leader in smartphones? In cellphones, sure, but did they ever have 36% marketshare in smartphones? Maybe I don’t remember 2010 as well as I think I do (or maybe they had a big market internationally by not in the US).

  4. How does this tally define “smartphone”? How many of Samsung’s commodity devices are they counting? Or is this a total tally of total sales of each company that sells at least one smartphone in their lineup?

I’d like to thank Blackberry for having been run by arrogant dinosaurs who couldn’t see the meteor as it was crashing down upon them. And I’d like to thank Microsoft for buying and destroying Nokia.

  5. smartphones are now commodities. It doesn’t matter who’s number 1 or number 10 for that matter.
