MacStories:
Developer Jeff Johnson, the maker of StopTheMadness, has released a free Mac utility called StopTheNews that forces Apple News links to open in Safari instead of the News app.
The app works with Safari and Safari Technology Preview by registering itself as the default handler for the Apple News URL scheme.
This comes in very handy but it feels like something Apple might not approve of. But I’ll use it regardless.
Ironic that MacStories, a site using a paywall, does this? No?
I can read that story without having to pay them. Correlation isn’t causation.
A well-timed reminder in this twilight of the Mac era, of the kinds of useful things developers and users won’t be trusted to do in the iOS-like era to come (and indeed never could on iOS).
Does this circumvent the publisher’s paywall?
AppleNews is garbage, a machine that does nothing but instill confirmation bias into your news stream.
This story. Try to read the rest.
Bunk.
