Qualcomm and Apple agree to drop all litigation

Qualcomm and Apple today announced an agreement to dismiss all litigation between the two companies worldwide. The settlement includes a payment from Apple to Qualcomm. The companies also have reached a six-year license agreement, effective as of April 1, 2019, including a two-year option to extend, and a multiyear chipset supply agreement.

I’m glad this is over.

  1. Is it. They are having trouble with Intel and that Chinese company said they would supply them but there is the chance that they might rip off trade secrets, but it seems that after this long drawn out fight world wide that they would just kiss and make up , just seems to convenient. There something the both know but are not wanting us to know. I thought that we were suppose to hear about something really big that Apple was going to do. I hope that wasn’t it. I would have thought that Apple might have bought Qualcomm out.

  2. And then Intel announced it was dropping out of the market, citing low profitability. Nice deal making. Not Samsung Litigation 2.0.

  3. Well, 5 hours later intel announced that it would not continue developing 5g-modems. Both Intel and Qualcomm probably knew that Intel wouldn’t be able to make it in time, so Apple had no other choice than to settle. (it could also have been, because now, with apple gone, they lack the funding. but i’d guess, if apple could have gone with intel, they would have)

They’ll probably still try to develop 5g (6g) modems, so they could use their own after the agreement with Qualcomm ends.

  4. Nah, Apple is going to use this 6-year window to develop their own chips, and then will drop Qualcomm permanently. I’m pretty sure they don’t want to go through this again, they just need some lead time.
