Michael Hearst, composer of the classic “Songs for Ice Cream Trucks” and author of the excellent Unusual Creatures, shares this delightful video of seemingly quite dangerous rides at Coney Island in the 1930s and 1940s.
These are great but I can’t imagine many of them would be allowed today.
I love Michael Hearst’s work. I got to meet him back around the time when he collaborated with several bands (including my all-time favorite band) for his “Unusual Creatures” album. I’m a big fan.
Well, some of it seems a lot safer to bungee jumping particularly when they tie you by the ankle, and you jump head-first.
I guess amusement parks weren’t for little kids back in the day?
