This Reddit thread is provocative, but thoughtful. Rare to see a discussion like this not devolve into opposing, trolling camps.
I value perspective on Steve because he made so many dents in the universe and had such strong vision. Lessons (both positive and negative) worth holding onto.
Indubitably.
Would it be different? Sure. “remarkably”? Maybe. Aside from his communication skills, Steve seemed to have three things that really can’t be replaced:
1) An amazing passion and skill for making the best product possible combined with a push for getting even tiny details right.
2) The stance that saying No is important. It’s SO easy to find people who will ‘be positive’ and say Yes.
3) Founder power. This is literally irreplaceable. No CEO, no longtime employee can match this. Steve was one of the two founders. That brings something to his decisions that goes beyond title and rank.
I think it is silly to ask this.
People change, and Mr. Jobs changed allot, perhaps his self-development was more important to him, Apple success being just a byproduct of his self-development.

I personally find this type of argument futile. There is no right answer. It didn’t happen so why give it too much thought. What I can say is that we had Apple with Steve then Apple without Steve then Apple once again with Steve. We all know the impact he had when he was present.

I hate discussions like this because no one knows the answer. Steve is an individual person and who knows what his perspective might be at this point. It might be the same as it was in the 7 or so years before he died, it might be the same as Tim Cook’s now. It might be something totally different from both.
