Software pirates have hijacked technology designed by Apple Inc to distribute hacked versions of Spotify, Angry Birds, Pokemon Go, Minecraft and other popular apps on iPhones, Reuters has found.
Using so-called enterprise developer certificates, these pirate operations are providing modified versions of popular apps to consumers, enabling them to stream music without ads and to circumvent fees and rules in games, depriving Apple and legitimate app makers of revenue.
This is very bad news for Apple. They have long touted the safety and security of the App Store as a plus for consumers.
This doesn’t seem to be an issue with the safety and security of the App Store and wouldn’t effect the majority of consumers. These are a limited number(?) of apps provided directly from a so-called developer, where the user is knowingly skirting the App Store to buy a clearly altered app
That’s it. This is about user that explicitly want to side load app to avoid paying for the same apps in the Apple Store, not about hacking user devices without there consent using entreprise certificates.
Not that it is anything but safe for your data to accept an entreprise certificate from an untrusted party, and it is even less safe to side load apps from these same guys.

While all the coverage I’ve seen leaves out where, exactly, people find this kind of software, isn’t the point that they *don’t* come from the App Store?
In fact, doesn’t it reinforce that sideloading is bad?
“Trusting will allow any app from this enterprise developer to be used on your iPhone and may allow access to your data”
Considering what you have to go through to install, If you install these, you get what you deserve.
