An ad-free version of the service will be available for a fee and non-pay TV customers can purchase a subscription to the service, the media company said
Everyone has to have their own service. From a user perspective, there are too many services to keep track of.
So now, everyone has to be their own TV service coordinator, managing subscriptions to each provider individually (Many of which aren’t really free. They ask you to provide the identity of your cable provider before you can register with them.) And then you pay for internet connectivity on top of that.
I just want a package of sports channels and then buy TV shows that are on the broadcast/cable networks from iTunes. I just don’t watch enough of these services to want to pay them month after month.
We all need to watch less TV!
OR…. you can choose not to sub to this and watch things… over the air.
I wonder how CBS’s service is doing. They have Trek to anchor it but I don’t even know what else is offers.
OF all of these network specific services I think only Disney has a shot because they have SO much content between TV and movies, plus all of the kids channels, etc. CBS/NBC/ABC (the latter being part of Disney but I’m thinking just the ABC stuff now)… no.
I suspect you’re right. People tried to get away from bundling, and that effort is getting us into a worse place than bundling ever was. The coming “everybody has their own subscription platform” doesn’t seem like a stable node. It’s going to collapse into something else.
cord cutter utopia was always a myth
What if someone threw a streaming service and no one came?
Since I no longer have an all-you-can-eat cable subscription, my watching has become ad hoc. I no longer surf endlessly/mindlessly, and no longer feel the pull of TV as a habitual commitment. I’m not a hostage to watching something at a specific ‘time slot’. I watch when I want, skip through news segments that try to be excessively sensationalistic, and rarely have to watch commercials.
Will this behavior lead to less offerings and less programming from media titans? Maybe, but I don’t care too much. For me its about quality, not quantity.
