Samsung:
In an industry first, a new iTunes Movies and TV Shows app will debut only on Samsung Smart TVs in more than 100 countries. AirPlay 2 support will be available on Samsung Smart TVs in 190 countries worldwide.
“We look forward to bringing the iTunes and AirPlay 2 experience to even more customers around the world through Samsung Smart TVs, so iPhone, iPad and Mac users have yet another way to enjoy all their favorite content on the biggest screen in their home,” said Eddy Cue, senior vice president of Internet Software and Services at Apple.
This is great news for those of you who use these products but I wouldn’t allow a “smart TV” into my home for love or money.
You kind of don’t have a choice these days. Virtually any TV with buying as a TV (i.e. for the picture etc) has smart features.
Agreed. About a year ago I bought a Vizio for my bedroom. I explicitly bought it to use with my Apple TV. Nothing else. I pretty much had to get a SmartTV even though I never plan to use the apps.
I do get that people use them though.
True but there’s no reason to hook it up to the internet. And, if it’s not hooked up to the internet, it ain’t very “smart”. 🙂

It is pretty clear is is part of Apple plan to become a Media compagny.
Imagine if Google or Amazon Buy Netflix !
This seems like a pretty huge deal, actually. Up until now the biggest hurdle for a lot of people to buy movies or TV shows on iTunes was that they didn’t have any way to view them on a TV. For many people the Apple TV is just too expensive compared to something built into their TV, or a cheap devices like a Chromecast or Fire TV Stick.
It’s just as easy to avoid Samsung as it is to avoid smart features. Our Vizio is hooked up to an old Mac mini for video. That mini has the Internet connection.
