How one person dreamed up an emoji, and got it onto your iPhone

I love this story. In a nutshell, Mark Bramhill, host of the wonderful podcast “Welcome to Macintosh,” imagined a “person meditating” emoji, then set about figuring out how to get that emoji through the approval process.

  1. 99% Invisible did an episode following someone on their hunt to get a “Person in Lotus Position” emoji added. Granted, it lacks the animation, but you can listen to it in the car. =)

  2. as far as I could tell, this was just a repackaging of the 4 episode mini series Mark did for season 3 of Welcome to Macintosh…compressing two hours of podcast to 7 minutes and animating it. Not to detract from the fabulous animation, and hopefully Mark got something out of it too! But if you like this, I highly recommend the original podcast (https://www.macintosh.fm)
