Rush: Tom Sawyer live

I love all of these older Rush songs.

  1. Every time someone somewhere posts something about Rush I can’t but help think of Jian Ghomeshi’s book “1982” and his childhood obsession with the band.

If you haven’t read it, do yourself a favour. A great slice of Canadian/Iranian/prog rock life.

  2. Rush was one of my favorite bands in high school and college, but I never saw them live. It’s fascinating to watch. Neil Peart on drums was obviously nonmobile, but so was Geddy Lee. Alex Lifeson on guitar was the only guy with any stage mobility. And was it my imagination or did he seem all too aware of that and maybe a bit uncomfortable.

  3. Smile. I’ve seen Rush countless times, and I even managed to get my wife to attend the last three tours. We spent bucketlist cash to see the final tour up front in Boston. We had better seats than Portnoy did that night.

  4. Precisely. Geddy Lee multitasked like nobody I know, and the rhythms of some of those songs are extra-difficult on top of all that. But as a stage act, it’s a bit odd to see only one guy on stage with any kind of mobility. I totally enjoyed Alex Lifeson’s guitar-work. But he wasn’t exactly Angus Young. I loved their music. I just hadn’t ever realized what a static stage show they were. I had friends who went to their concerts and loved it. But for one reason or another, I just never saw them live.
