He added that 51 percent of Mac buyers are “new to Mac” and noted that in China that figure is 76 percent, highlighting growth in the world’s most populous country.

40% of all Macs ever sold are still in use.
I wonder if you ignored the first 10 years of Mac purchases, if that 40% number would drop, even to 39%. To me, this says a ton about the impact the success of the iPhone and the evolution of the Apple ecosystem has had on the Mac.

That includes one original bondi blue iMac in use where I work.
I must skew those numbers. I’ve retired two desktops, a mini, two laptops, and two iBooks. Only four of them were still functional when taken out of service, and two of those have since died. Not complaining: every one of them was used daily for 4 to seven years.

Probably not by a whole percent.
I have a bunch of old Macs from the 68k and PPC era.
Mostly by now failing caps or leaking PRAM batteries are going to be making the first ten years of Macs dubious or dead.
(I lost an SE/30 to PRAM leakage eating the MB, and had to wash a IIci’s motherboard to get capacitor leakage off it to make it bootable.
That and, well, everything that old is practically useless!
Leopard is the only OS that runs on a PPC Mac that even has TLS support to talk to today’s websites without aftermarket browsers, etc.)
