Today, Apple updated its T-shirt selection at the Visitor Center for fall with some designs that long-time fans might remember.
Eight designs are now available to purchase in either white or black for a grand total of sixteen shirts. Last fall’s set of clothing, first available at the iPhone X Special Event and later to the public in November, featured four designs in a range of colors for the same total of sixteen.
Held over from last year are shirts bearing a small rainbow Apple logo in the center and others emblazoned with Apple Park’s patent-pending ring logo, featured on invitations for September’s Special Event at Steve Jobs Theater. A monochromatic version of this design has been added as well.
I don’t know how I feel about Apple bringing back the old rainbow-coloured logo. Make no mistake, I had/have a lot of Apple logo gear including the sweatshirt pictured on the post’s page. But as much as I like the six-coloured logo, it feels like it belongs in the past.
I have a soft spot for the six-color Apple logo as it’s the logo of my childhood spent staying after school to write programs in Applesoft Basic on the school’s Apple ][ (and later //e) computers.
It’s not the rainbow designs that are bad, it’s the styles of those old 80’s clothes on those models that’s horrific. 🙂
With an openly gay CEO I don’t think the rainbow is going anywhere.
The six color logo has nothing to do with an “openly gay CEO”. And the logo has been monochrome for most of Cook’s tenure.
I think it’s weird and out of place.
Apple 1980s was cute and fun (anyone who doesn’t like ’80s fashion has no fashion). Their logo was an apple or some pop text in bright rainbow colors.
Apple 2010s has this appalling white-room sterile anti-aesthetic; the machines still mostly “just work” (“mostly”…), but they’re not pleasing to humans. So their logo is a black curve vaguely in the shape of an apple.
Having something cute and fun on modern Apple stuff just reminds you how awful white/”alu-minium” everywhere is.
If Apple was retheming everything to bondi blue, and rainbow colors, I’d be all for it.
