Tim Hortons:
There’s only one hockey team in all of Kenya. They had nobody to play. So, we brought them to Canada for an unforgettable game.
Everyone knows how important hockey is to Canada and Canadians. For almost every Canadian kid, our memories of youth hockey are intertwined with Tim Hortons. After every practice or game, your coach would take you to “Timmies” for a hot chocolate and a doughnut. Tim Hortons probably sponsored your team. So, even though I despise their coffee (but love their doughnuts), I’ll always have a soft spot for Tim Hortons. If I was feeling homesick when I lived in Connecticut, I’d ride my motorcycle a couple hours north to the nearest Tim Hortons for a doughnut.
I still hated their coffee though.
I only ever had the coffee, I thought it was pretty good. Just a nice, simple, coffee flavor. I live in New England, so Dunkin Donuts drove Tim Hortons out, I miss them actually. I can’t stand DD, and Starbucks isn’t much better. I’m saving money at least!
I think Hortons cut a deal a few years ago to partner up with other chains in this area. So I’ll see their signage and interior display side by side with, say, Nathan’s in Penn Station.
I hope they do the same here. We certainly have enough coffee drinkers in Boston!
Decades before Hortons appeared in NYC, I remember stopping off at one on our way home from the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, towards the southern edge of town (naturally).
I remember the coffee being okay, but the donuts were indeed great.
This is awesome! It almost makes me forgive Tim’s for making Mackinnon fat and slow at the beginning of last season. (no goals in the first 10 games – this year he has 6 goals in 5 games.) It’s good of Shawn to highlight the game, since he lives in a town in which there is no hockey.
Tim Hortons sells donuts. Not really sure what “doughnuts” are.

Check your dictionary. I think you’ll see both spellings listed as valid, regardless of which lexicon you believe you’re trying to protect. 😉
