As promised, here’s a selection of photos and videos taken with iPhone XS and iPhone X side-by-side. The low-light video clips are just amazing. And audio quality is remarkably better in all video.
As I’ve always said on Your Mac Life, these are the kinds of comparisons and shots I want to see. I don’t see the point of giving review cameras ahead of launch to the likes of Austin Mann and Pete Souza – they are professional photographers who are expected to take great photos no matter what camera they use. I’d rather see Apple seed cameras to “average” people and see what the differences are in their shots.
I’d also love it if Gruber would take my beginner digital photography class to learn how to take better images.

Moreover, having a semi-naive photographer is incredibly useful if you’re trying to decide if a new phone is good for, say, your spouse who is not technical and who often complains about their pictures being blown out.
Sure, but there’s a difference between someone who blows out photos on the regular and someone who cuts off heads. 😉
Yeah – I’d like to see Apple seed the phones to people who are “good” photographers (like me) but who aren’t “professional” photographers.
Luckily for him, he’s no longer employed by the White House. 🙂
The average photo is, I think, pretty poor. You need at least some understanding of how to frame the picture. But yeah, I’d rather see Gruber or you run around with one than someone like Souza (I know you’re a semi-pro, but you’re still not a Souza).
With his job and another 10 years, I’m sure.
But could you stay out of jail for the next two? I couldn’t. I’d deck the (redacted) within a week. 🙂
Pretty remarkable quality increase across the board. I’m still very curious about the Xr camera and how much the lack of telephoto lens will affect it compared to the Xs.
