AppleCare, like most insurance, is a bit of a crapshoot. This is a good piece that may help you decide whether or not to get it.
The other benefit that is part of the Apple Upgrade Plan is that the cost of AppleCare+ or AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss are rolled into your monthly payments. So, if you actually upgrade your phone every year, like I do, you only pay for the AppleCare+ for the time you have the phone. So, for my 12 months, I’ve paid half of the total cost of the iPhone and AppleCare+, effectively paying half the cost of the AppleCare+. If I had bought the phone outright and then sold it for half of the original cost, I would have had to pay for the AppleCare+ in full up front…
