Apple included a spare dongle in the boxes of the iPhone X, 8, 8 Plus, 7, and 7 Plus phones, but it isn’t so generous this year when it comes to including a 3.5mm audio dongle in the box.
The 3.5mm dongle is no longer a free accessory and the new iPhones won’t ship with Apple’s own fast Lightning to 3.5mm audio jack adapter. This includes the iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, and the iPhone 8, which used to include the free dongle.
I understand both sides of the argument but still – I wish Apple would continue to include it.

I never said they sold 216 million dongles already. Im saying if sales were to repeat this year (knowing that they don’t sell iPhone 6/6S/SE anymore), that would be an environmental disaster.

I’m talking about the usage of these adapters if they were included in XS. AirPods have been selling well (last I heard, 25+ million in sales), Lightning to Headphone Adapter is declining from best buy (was #1 sold adapter), other manufacturers are removing headphone jacks (increasing bluetooth audio device sales), and millions of adapters were already shipped with previous iPhones. So including this headphone adapter would not get used that much since a lot of users either will use their existing adapters or use wireless solutions.
Amount of people that will need a headphone adapter will still be in the millions, but it doesn’t justify producing millions of new headphone jack adapters for everyone.
I suspect Earpods are the next to go. Then the 5w chargers. And finally the lightning cable.
