CNBC:
Recently, job-search site Glassdoor compiled a list of 15 top employers that have said they no longer require applicants to have a college degree. Companies like Google, Apple, IBM and EY are all in this group.
This just does not ring true to me. I know a number of people who work at Apple and Google without college degrees. And many more with degrees unrelated to the field in which they work.
I’d like to see the quote from Apple or Google citing a specific policy change. Ping me if you know more about this.

I teach Cisco high end networking to graduates. I’ve not got a single computing qualification to my name. I am a manufacturing and mechanical engineer with material technology background.
That may be true, but it doesn’t make untrue that it could have also been a requirement for new hires. Even if it was a requirement for new hires there are ways people can come into Apple without needing to go thru that requirement — acquisitions, promotions from retail, etc.

I obviously can’t speak for most people, but I’ve been working full-time in my second career as a freelance computer artist for thirty years, and no one has ever asked to see my degree! I never got one.
I’m also glad I taught myself by RTFM and OJT! Can’t count the times I’ve picked up others’ work and to see how incredibly inept it generally was from a technical know-how standpoint.
