No matter the order, I hear the word I was thinking every freaking time. Crazy. Is this brainwashing? Or just cool brain science? This is damn close to magic, as far as I am concerned.
A prime example of…Priming. If you think of ‘Brain Needle’ or ‘Grain Eagle’ you’ll hear that too. 🙂

This does not work as you stated. I here the exact same sound each time I play it.
I get green needle some of the time, but it doesn’t correspond to when I’m thinking about green needle or brainstorm or “I should be doing something else with my time”. Most of the time I get Brainstorm, and it never changes even if I change my thought in the loop until I hit pause/play.

The Yanny Laurel thing was a priming issue too. Whoever first posted it should have done it sans-words. The words were the priming.
I showed Yanny/Laurel to my wife without telling her anything about it. She heard Yanny while I heard Laurel. I showed her this without her knowing anything about it or “priming” her. She heard “green needle”, even when I told her what she “should” have heard.
It works for me every time. I always hear the word I’m thinking of. But the rest of my family only hears “Green Needle”. Hmmm.
Works for me about like for everybody, but there’s one specific I can’t figure out. When I near “brainstorm,” there seems to be a clear “s” sound in the middle of the clip. When I hear “green needle,” I can’t detect any “s” sound at all.
The rest of the sounds for the most part are relatively undefined and can be interpreted broadly, but the “s” I don’t get.
Curious if other people notice this.
I’ve listened to it several times without particularly expecting anything, and I hear green needle every time. Without priming perhaps I’d have heard something else but… I’m definitely hearing 3 syllables. I wonder how it is that other people are hearing only 2.
I agree but it sure is interesting how the brain works on this stuff.

yanni/laurel is probably more of a frequency thing. depending on the speakers, i can hear either one of them or both at the same time. i can‘t do that with this one.
I’ll bet the subliminal ad impressions for these sound tests are through the roof.

Please explain how people can hear brainstorm when there are clearly three syllables being spoken.
There definitely aren’t. The toy in question is Brainstorm from Ben 10. It is definitely saying Brainstorm.
I also had my family listen to Yanny/Laurel with no priming as what they should hear, and they all heard Yanny (or something very close) while I heard Laurel.
