Steve Jobs introduces the original iMac

In my opinion, it’s impossible to overstate the importance of this announcement. I’ve long maintained that the iMac saved Apple. Without it, the company would not exist today.

  1. True, but it’s also impossible to overstate how awful that mouse was.

  2. I use that mouse as a litmus test of the value of your opinions regarding design. If you don’t think it was a complete abomination that never should have left the lab, then your opinion on design in general has no weight with me. 🙂

  3. I think it made a nice Christmas tree ornament, at least until two accessory makers began selling add-ons to make it fit a hand better.

  4. It looked so cool in his intro video, I couldn’t wait to get it. Then I used it. I still don’t know how that made it out of testing. No way Jobs spent any actual time with it, right? The little nub they added to the next version so you feel you were oriented properly was such an obvious addition, that I swear no one ever tested the original.

  5. I know I’m not the only Apple nerd reading Loop who still has an original Bondi Blue iMac in the basement.

  6. Frustrating that there doesn’t appear to be a complete, unedited version of this event on youtube.
