Hulu now has over 20 million U.S. subscribers – that’s up from the 17 million-plus it claimed in January. The news of its subscriber growth is being delivered alongside a series of pitches to advertisers at the company’s Upfronts presentation in New York this morning, where it’s also touting its upcoming original series and detailing its new ad products. One of those will be of particular interest to Hulu’s users, too – the company will at last allow subscribers to download shows to watch offline.
I love offline viewing with my Netflix account, so I’m sure this will be a big hit with Hulu subscribers. I tried Hulu a while ago, but I wasn’t all that impressed. I may give it another go.
If you do give Hulu another try, makes sure to watch Looming Tower. A great show with Jeff Daniels and a lot of other great actors that feels like Homeland. It’s based on a true story of the build-up to 9/11, and the failure of the FBI and the CIA to get along together and failing to prevent it.
A Handmaid’s Tale is great too.
I don’t see this as a game changer for Hulu. They really need to rethink their UX and bridge the gap between user expectations and reality.
As it is, it’s frustrating to find what you want, difficult to que up to record programs in the future. I often have to wade thgrough so much content I’m completely disinterested in to get to what I want.
I’m sure this all has to do with content creators dictating certain parameters, but it leaves the user frustrated and disinterested.
The content creators are the ones who created Hulu. It won’t get any better.
