All of the songs played on “WKRP in Cincinnati” in one Spotify playlist

Open Culture:

Recently, one dedicated fan went through the first season and identified every song played on the shows, and produced this spreadsheet first mentioned on BoingBoing. That then led to somebody wishing for a Spotify playlist and of course the Internet has provided. Find the playlist and stream all 202 tracks.

WKRP is one of those TV shows I loved but will never watch again. I’m afraid it won’t be as good as I remember it. It has happened to me before – I rewatched some old “Get Smart” shows I loved as a kid and thought, as an adult, it was awful. But I’ll listen to this playlist all day long.

  1. We watched a bunch of WKRP recently. A lot of it held up fairly well. Much of the rest was just standard silly sitcom crap.

  2. I can’t wait to hear You’re Having My Baby by the Hallelujah Tabernacle Choir.

  3. 18-year-old me was fairly pleased with how familiar the show’s playlist sounded back then, for a network sitcom, anyway. I knew they were never going to use some of the stuff I’d just started listening to in college, though.

  4. I have watched them fairly recently too and concur.

It’s also the first time I heard Bill Withers, “Just the Two of Us”. Venus Flytrap played it.

    I just looked it up, Season 3, number 98. : )

  5. The turkey episode absolutely still holds up. Some things are timeless, and that episode (like The Office “Dinner Party” or Seinfeld “The Contest) is one of them.
