Facebook Inc said on Wednesday that the personal information of up to 87 million users may have been improperly shared with political consultancy Cambridge Analytica, up from a previous news media estimate of more than 50 million.
Surely nobody is surprised.
10 million here, 10 million there. After a while it adds up to something.
Tip of the iceberg folks. I wouldn’t be surprised if Facebook shared their entire user base with Cambridge Analytica, US election or not.
Facebook has literally nothing about me, no phone number at all, an old email account that I use for junk, which I actually get a small amount of junk in. I really never use it. But I feel bad for people who do. My wife does, she has family elsewhere and it helps her stay in touch with friends. Ah well, but really as Jim says, it’s not really all that surprising.
I’m guessing it’s more than 87 million.
And no one will be surprised.
As Gruber pointed out, by the time Facebook is done incrementally dosing out the real number, we’re probably looking at a quarter billion or so.
Washington Post today is reporting that Facebook has let the data of 2 billion users go unprotected.
