For the first time, users will be able to draw, sketch or write with Apple Pencil directly in the Pages, Numbers and Keynote apps. With Apple Pencil, advanced yet easy-to-use tools allow all users, from students to professionals, to bring their documents to life with drawings, illustrations, diagrams and more. Apple Pencil can also be used to easily and precisely add color, texture and more to any drawing.

Smart Annotation, launched today in beta, is an innovative new tool in Pages that allows users to easily give, receive and incorporate feedback in a document using Apple Pencil. With Smart Annotation, comments and proof marks will dynamically anchor to text. And as a user integrates feedback and the document changes, remaining annotations will stay with the text they were attached to.
I really do love that feature.
I was hoping for a new version of the 6 year old iBooks Author.
Probably won’t see that until the revamped iBooks Store is revealed.
Been hoping for that since I found out that Office can do that just fine. So I kept PP around on my iPad just in case…
The macOS version of Pages has 2-page display again. That makes me happy 🙂
Serenity Caldwell has posted that iBooks Author has not been sunsetted.
This headline definitely needed a “Finally”. Pencil support has been available in Office for a very long time, and the iWork team knew about the Apple Pencil a long time before the Office team!
Possibly dumb question: aren’t the new publishing features in Pages supposed to basically subsume iBooks Author? That’s what Jason Snell suggested on the Upgrade podcast (also noting that iBooks Author was based on an old version of Pages).
I’m honestly not sure. Both of those apps get such… intermittent attention. It would be nice if they could have dedicated people working on them. Back when iWork was a yearly paid update, the versions really were upgrades. Now, it feels like they just want to check a box on a marketing slide. “Yep we’ve got that”… though if you really care about that feature you’re probably using somebody else’s app :-
