“Privacy means people know what they’re signing up for. In plain English, and repeatedly. That’s what it means.” I love these (bittersweet) videos of Jobs in these kinds of settings. The cynic in me says it’s easy for Apple to take this stance because their business model doesn’t depend on them accessing data in the way that Google, Facebook and others do. But the optimist in me believes that Apple, even now, fervently believes in privacy in the way that Jobs is describing in this video.

  4. So amazingly prescient. People ask, now more than ever, what the difference between iOS and Android is? What makes Google and Apple different? Play them this clip. This is the DNA that separates them.

    As for Facebook and “Hi Mark.” Just watch his interview at this same event which came later. His sweat soaked, nervous stumbling over the same question should have been ample warning to all.

  5. Ask ’em. Ask ’em every time. Make them tell you to stop asking them if they get tired of your asking them. Let them know, precisely, what you’re going to do with their data.

    Yup, not a radical idea, but very trust endearing.

  6. Isn’t it common courtesy on the internet to mention the source where you originally saw a post? This is obviously from John Gruber’s post a few days ago.

  7. Yes it is but what is obvious to you may not be true. I didn’t see Gruber’s post regarding this. I have my own “sources” – in this case, a Google Alert set up for Steve Jobs.

    “Yr sources may not be true” This doesn’t make any sense either. As I said, I use Google Alerts to learn about a lot of things, videos like this included. Not sure if you mean that I shouldn’t trust Google Alerts as a source of information.
