First things first, if you haven’t yet seen it, take a minute to watch Apple’s latest iPhone ad. It’s a wonderful, tumultuous, explosion of visuals, all focused on a single point. Unlocking is easy.
This whimsical treat has vaulted near the top of my favorite Apple spots, a refreshing complement to the Spike Jonze HomePod ad from a few weeks ago.
Apple Marketing is on a roll.
An interesting side note, spotted in this tweet from Benjamin Mayo:
Check the image in the tweet. Notice the text that has scrolled outside the iMessage bubble. This is not Benjamin being picky. This is him noting an iMessage bug that he’s campaigning to get fixed, one that made it all the way into a commercial.

Not anymore. Bug is out of the commercial now. So either the bug is fixed, or the commercial is replaced….
Nope, it’s still there. Hold down the command key on your Mac, click on the scrub bar so you can step frame-by-frame. It’s one of the first frames in that sequence. Just saw it, using the video in the Loop post.

That’s the “thin edge of the wedge”. I think its time for a QC Czar at Apple.
Even looking for it I didn’t see it. Seeing the screenshot i thought it would be blatant, but it’s literally a fraction of a second as the bubble grows around the text. Yeah I’m not panicking.
My thoughts as well; looks like the text is displayed first and then the bubble but it happens so fast it really isn’t noticeable. And the description makes it sound like the text stays outside the bubble but that isn’t the case; the bubble *does* cover the entire text after it’s completely drawn.

I think the far more egregious mistake in this commercial is that the hatchback of the second car (the one on our right) opens BEFORE she looks at it 🙂
And that is visible when viewing at regular speed and not frame by frame.
Imagine if your work was scrutinised frame by frame.
