Steve Jobs gave a very informal talk to a class at MIT’s Sloan School of Management, back in 1992. I’ve not seen this one before.
I have to say, seeing Steve so young and vibrant both thrills me and fills me with sadness. [Via @EggFreckles]

What a great talk. He goes into details about the process of running a company that I have never seen him do in any other talk.
Thanks Dave!
Saving for later viewing. Always interested to hear him speak.
Wow, this was really great and Steve… what a smart guy.
Interesting how Steve was using the word “app” as short for “application” (starts around 7:15) as fa back as 1992. And also: early day of the mock turtleneck. Thanks Dave!
Hands down the best technical talk I’ve ever heard by Steve. Great video — thanks for the link!

There were a number of noteworthy things in the talk. I loved his little consultant-bashing rant.
It was really interesting to hear him talk about a future that didn’t include the internet. Everything has changed so much since then. I remember buying software in a shrink-wrapped box.
As he was dismissing portable computers I was picturing him pulling the MacBook Air out of the envelope at MacWorld in 2008. Of course sixteen years made a big difference in what a laptop could do.
I never realized how much of NeXT’s strategy was built around app development tools. I do remember that I went to an Apple users group meeting around this time where someone demoed a NeXT machine. The main thing they showed off was how easy it was to build a functional app. That was fascinating to me as a developer but I didn’t know that was what NeXT’s marketing was riding on.
Thanks for doing that. It was a compelling video. I was expecting to watch for a few minutes but I ended up watching the whole thing.
