Hundreds of Surface Pro 4 owners have been complaining about screen flickering issues on their tablets. A thread over at Microsoft’s support forums shows that the problems have been occurring for more than a year, and most devices affected are out of warranty. Dubbed “Flickergate,” a website to report the issues claims at least 1,600 Surface Pro 4 owners have experienced the screen flickering problems.
And:
Some owners have even started freezing their tablets to stop the screen flickering temporarily. “I get about half an hour’s use out of it after ten minutes in the freezer,” says one owner. Another user posted a video showing how the flickering stops as soon as the Surface Pro 4 is placed in a freezer.
Hardware is hard.
They sure have a hit product other hands.
Garbage, and the tech press can’t stop passing out accolades.
Sure sounds like a solid product to me.
A reported 1% (per Gruber) hardware failure rate ain’t gonna cut it as “garbage”.
The real question will be whether Microsoft replaces the hardware for free if it’s affected; refusing to do so will be horrible customer service given the price point of the SP4.
(Disclosure: I own a Surface Pro 4 that doesn’t do that, and I think it’s “good but not amazing”, because of endemic sleep issues that Microsoft is too pathetic to fix, so I’m both in-loop on it and nothing like a Microsoft-fanboy.
I mean, my non-gaming desktop is a 27″ iMac, after all.
[Oh, and I also owned a white iBook of the model that had the endemic GPU failures, that never had that problem, so maybe I’m just naturally lucky.
But it’s a useful reminded that Apple’s screwed the hardware pooch, and that nobody is immune.])
Yet where’s the outrage over t his? If this were the ipad Pro… it would be in the nightly news.
Double standard applies, remember all those outrage from green peace, human rights groups, etc., over things that every other tech company is worse at, while Apple is pretty much the only one being held accountable?
Not just in the nightly news, class action lawsuits and government inquiries as well!
Since you mentioned Gruber, I thought it was interesting that he pointed out the risk of condensation by freezing the machines in the fridge.
Also, it is a proof that people always want/expect the BEST from Apple, unlike from its main competitors.

if only even 1% of ipads or iphones had this problem apple would be crucified by the press.
