It’s all in the model number. Note that this has been true for many, many years and applies to Macs and, I believe, iPads too.
That said, this is one of those arcane bits of trivia that bears repeating.

Finding my Mac Pro’s model # (not serial #) was not easy. Had to go down and look at the box in the basement. A1481 which I assume was new as refurbs would probably start with “R”.
Model number, part number, model identifier. If only they were all as convenient to find.
