You might think New York City is the best but, not quite. After analyzing over 1,600 breweries, NYC comes in 16th place.
Having lived there, I would have guessed Portland, Oregon. But seeing who is actually number one makes me want to visit.
Santa Rosa surprised me.
Translation: I’ll be going to Santa Rosa on vacation.
Yep…I was going to say Minneapolis has to be in Top 10. You cannot walk 1 block in the historic district downtown without running into a small craft brewery.

Salt Lake City was number 10! Guess the Mormons like brewing beer, just not drinking it.
Tough to beat our Front Range: Colorado Springs, Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins. Esp. on a per-capita basis.
Santa Rosa’s also wine country…at least before the fire(s). And it offers phenomenal cycling. Two more reasons to drop in.
Mere pikers… I live in Port Moody BC, population 32,000 and we have four breweries! All located in a short two block stretch. Works out to an equivalent of 12 / 100,000 🙂
I’m not crazy about the website using my location to incorporate it into the header. It’s seems desperate and kind of lazy to use a gimmick like that to hook a reader. Or maybe it was supposed to be funny and I didn’t get the joke. Any “Mecca” will need a population density to support it so Santa Rosa isn’t a surprise since it’s basically a suburb of SF now. I see it lumped into north Bay Area frequently. Also check out Founders, Grand Rapids MI if you haven’t yet.
I generally consider this sort of thing by state, not city. Last time I checked, most of the better-than-good breweries I could think of came from Pennsylvania.

I would have guessed Denver. It and San Diego are my two favorite beer cities. Santa Rosa is beautiful, I missed out on the beer culture.
If we’re doing it by state, then I gotta go with California. There are so many outstanding microbrews there.
It was clever, but it kind of creeped me out, too. I imagine they are just trying to do something cool, but it was mostly jarring to me.

The landscape appears to shift every few years. I used to pick up a print bulletin called Ale Street News that would run comprehensive, state-by-state lists of brewers and pubs, and keep track of which brewmaster was moving to which brewery.
Welcome to my home town. Carlsbad is an awesome place to live. Though don’t plan on buying here on a whim if you want to be near all this beer. I live in the least expensive neighborhood in Carlsbad, and the houses are selling for $775k to $850k right now. Most neighborhoods are $900k plus. There’s breweries everywhere. And the brew masters are being poached from all over the country.
I heard an astounding statistic recently on NPR. There were 125 microbreweries in San Diego County in 2016, and only two have gone out of business in the past decade. And more coming every month.
Salt Lake is about 50 percent Mormon. Try Provo. They used to have a hard time putting in Coke machines, until the Mormon-owned U&I sugar objected to the ban on Coke and Pepsi in Utah.
Interestingly, they did not get my correct location, a few states over actually.
which part is the historic downtown? are you referring to the warehouse district, now called the north loop? it has a few, but more seem to be in the North East, tho this isn’t downtown.
Well Mr. Exact pants. north loop is 3 blocks from downtown. I office out of this area. I avoided saying that as you have to be from here to know that area. Yes your correct Northloop and surrounding places in North East are full of breweries now.

I recently was in Portland ME and went on The Main Brew Bus.
Maine has quite a few breweries per capita.

(Also … The Pudding is to be anti-complimented on having a presentation for this so distracting and low-density that I couldn’t be bothered to scroll and watch animations for more than a handful of paragraphs.

I’m in Portland, so it wasn’t obvious to me it was in the header, because as Mr. King said … Portland is an obvious guess.
Agreed that The Pudding is trying too hard by half with all this.
Enjoyed some delicious brews there last June. Great food options to go with it, as well! Was surprised at the ranking, seeing how close to California Wine country it is located, and how wine oenophiles seem to get all the traction.
A road trip north on Hwy 101 is also worth the time, if you have it.
