Your password probably sucks

Up your password game by ditching the pets names and creating strong, unique passwords with these tools and tips.

It’s pretty safe to say that most people’s passwords suck. There are some good tips in here, and some good apps to utilize. I’ve used 1Password for several years and love it.

  1. I usually use 25 character completely random passwords from 1Password.

There are lots of apps or websites with stupid limitations, though.

McDonald’s Canada’s app, for instance, requires a password between 6 (I think) and 12 characters. It must contain no punctuation. And it turns out 12 characters is actually too many for it, you need to use 11.

  2. Eh, 10+ is fine. But yeah, some sites…

Of course, if someone uses 1Password or the like they need to protect that with a strong password. I wonder how many people buy such products and protect their vault with ‘password’ or the like

  3. Best case is they don’t understand what they’re doing and put a limit there for no good reason. Which is also possible, but you know what happens when you assume the best of people. 🙂
