“We are thrilled that Shazam and its talented team will be joining Apple,” Apple spokesperson Tom Neumayr said in a statement to BuzzFeed News. “Since the launch of the App Store, Shazam has consistently ranked as one of the most popular apps for iOS. Today, it’s used by hundreds of millions of people around the world, across multiple platforms.”
Apple must have big plans for the technology. There are obvious uses, but I have a feeling we’ll see some cool things in the future.
It’s a good buy for Apple. They should keep the Android version going.
The technology… which do you mean? Music recognition or AR?
Shazam’s team isn’t a one trick pony.
Big plans, or the accounting makes sense; I wonder how much Apple’s iTunes affiliate program has paid Shazam to date.
Could be really nice using Siri to name the song that’s playing
How will they make money from that without compromising their ideals?
Number of times Shazam has ever ID’d a song for me: Zero.
Hopefully Apple can fix that.
Are you kidding me? Every time you ask Siri about a movie or song, it pushes ONE result: the iTunes store, or it says “Sorry, I can’t find ‘title’ in the iTunes store”, and never displays results from the web.
Less competition isn’t okay. Stop thinking that everything Apple does is beneficial to Apple users. Some things they do are worse for users. Siri is terrible when asking about movies or music. I have to fire up google or amazon to get actual web results.

What’s Apple’s incentive for doing such a thing?
Data. The more data, the better. The same reason that Google makes excellent products for iOS.
