‘Goldilocks’ iPhone
It’s a phone.
This price complaint is stupid. Paying $150 to $300 more for a more advanced, spectacular phone is so ridiculous, right?
How about some perspective?
I liked the iPhone 8 design too, when it was unveiled on the iPhone 6/6 Plus in 2014. Four straight models (6, 6s, 7, 8) that utilize virtually the same external design is not Apple at its innovative best. And, let’s be honest, the 6 design was far from their best. It’s fine. Instantly forgettable, but fine. It’s a hard sell coming from the company that so often has led the way on industrial design. There is little question that Android manufacturers have taken a step forward in this area, and that’s more than a little surprising to longtime Apple users.
To be clear, I’m not saying that Android suppliers make a “better” overall phone. I don’t think they do as Apple’s OS and internal designs and chips keep them ahead of the pack. However, as far as the external form factor goes, they have been more innovative and interesting of late.
I think his point is that it’s not all that much more advanced technologically – same chip, etc. You have to value the things it does (TrueTone OLED, etc) to pay more… except for the most obvious difference, the ability to get a Plus-sized screen in a regular sized phone. If you’re a person who’d really like a large screen but hate the size of the Plus for some reason, the X is your phone and really, if you spread it out over 2-3 years, the $350 isn’t prohibitive.
It’s tempting (I have a 6S Plus) but it’s not that tempting to me.
Honest question: does anyone complain that a 2017 Porsche looks kind of the same as a 2014 Porsche? That’s not where the real innovation lies, right?
Yeah, the X looks great when you hide the notch in a black bar.
