Aquaman’s costume evolution

This is a fun, well-done video detailing all the changes in costumes over the years for a character most of us know very little about.

  1. Hell, I read DC comics for decades, including Aquaman’s solo 1970s appearances in “Adventure,” the later camo-blue period, and his appearances in the newer cartoons (the most memorable of which are his hilarious scenes in Brave and the Bold).

And I still don’t have much of a connection to the guy. But this was a great summation.

  2. None of the re-imaginings do justice to the originals IMO and the suits they put them in today don’t even make sense.

Aquaman lives under the sea so of course … metal armour that will sink him to the bottom and long hair that’s sure to get tangled (along with lots of eyeliner for some reason). The original Aquaman was a good guy and an ecologist who cared about ALL life so of course … let’s turn him into a beer swilling pirate with a bad temper who hates everyone! Also, lets give this former do-gooder a signature WEAPON (the Trident) that doesn’t even function well as a weapon (a trident is a fishing spear that’s very difficult to pull out of a victim and thus basically a single use deal).

Why not stop just destroying the heroes of our youth and make up something new for a change?

  3. As I recall, 1970s Aquaman occasionally went up against surface-dwellers who were polluting the oceans. He was not entirely happy about having to do such a thing.

But by all means, let’s examine the practicality of superhero costumes. Settle in; we’ll be here for a long time.
