In an earlier discussion here, people were worried whether the up swipe would be reliable, citing the issues with swiping up to see the dock on iPad. Given that Apple has reserved what looks like ~30px at the bottom, I’m guessing this is super-reliable, with the caveat that it reduces the full usability of content on an edge-to-edge display.
I’m curious how apps will deal with this (when to show the handle or not) and how consistent the experience will be. e.g., for photos or videos, when the UI controls are hidden, I’m guessing it vanishes.
The up swipe on my iPad is sometimes problematic. But not so much that it’s of great concern.

What I want to see is how problematic (if at all) it is on the X. Pressing the home button (on my 6S at least) unlocks instantly so that’s my standard.
You and me both. I guess we’ll know soon.
Why is there a need for two separate steps; un-lock and open? If the phone reliably authenticates its user, why not open to the home screen in one step? (This is effectively how Touch ID works, as both steps happen almost immediately).
The two-step process seems un-necessary and ungainly.
