macOS High Sierra: How to stop autoplay videos in Safari 11

Macworld:

Autoplay video: The bane of the web. You either hate them, or are completely disgusted by them. Fortunately, with Safari 11 in macOS High Sierra (Safari 11 is also available for macOS Sierra), you can easily disable autoplay video and surf the web in relative peace.

Here’s how to stop autoplay videos in Safari 11.

I hope Macworld sees the irony in posting this tidbit.

  1. yeah its pretty ridiculous that one of the most notorious sites for using obnoxious ads, and who have seemingly no interest in correcting their poor behavior, are publishing this. bozos. i 1blockered them a year ago.

  2. Have you noticed that Macworld basically doesn’t load on iPads? I’ve tried multiple times on my iPad Pro 12.9″ 2nd-gen but it hangs almost every time. I don’t understand how they can keep the page this bad!

It’s a shame; I read MW only for Jason Snell’s content at this point, but have started skipping it.

  3. I don’t think I’ve been on Macworld since I got the iPad Pro 12.9″. I’ll have to try tonight and see what happens.
I wonder if you turn off Javascript if it will load?

  4. It is sad, Macworld has not had a place in my browser bookmarks in years. I used to subscribe to it and MacUser back in the day. It has completely gone to crap.
