The 70 most influential visual effects films of all time

The Visual Effects Society – a professional organization of artists, producers, technologists, and more who work in the entertainment industry – polled its nearly 3,400 members and determined a ranking of the most influential visual effects movies of all time.

What an interesting list, not necessarily of good movies but of movies that had visual excellence.

  1. Glad to see Raider’s melting faces, The Abyss’ water ‘worm’, & Inception’s folding Paris on the list.

Have to say that I was completely blown away by Gravity, though. Brilliant effects there.

  2. It’s missing “Silent Running”, though….:-( Doug Trumbull took what he built from 2001 and improved upon it; there’s a bunch of slick stuff in that one.

A friend of mine described watching the very beginning of Star Wars as ‘I was sitting there watching the little rebel ship fly by , and though “Ok, not bad!” Then the Imperial Cruiser starts flying by and he said his brain kinda went ‘into gobsmack mode’.

He said he went back and watched that movie seven more times trying to recapture that feeling…
