1. I am thoroughly unexcited about APFS in 10.13.0.

3. That’s a bit disappointing. However, I suppose I could replace my fusion drive with a full 1TB SSD since the prices have dropped. If all works fine with the current files system, though, no rush. I’m looking forward to High Sierra refinements overall, though.

5. Well, it’s going on my newer MacBook. We’ll just see how the overall compatibility works out.

   When we get new iMacs, iMac Pros, or even Mac Pros, we’re equipping them with SSDs. Definitely the future.

6. I hope this means finally the death of spinning hard drives as the boot drive. I don’t mind secondary storage being spinning since there’s still a magnitude difference in price, but the boot drive should be an SSD as default, for all machines.

9. IIRC, one can separate the SSD and HDD in the “fusion drive” … unFuse them, as it were…. or maybe Apple killed that ‘hack’ — I mean fix?

14. There is probably no better upgrade available for you, APFS or no.

15. I’ve helped three family members buy Macs in the last five years: Each time, I recommended an SSD. But one went with a platter, one with Fusion and only one with SSD. The SSD one is the only one still performing as when we bought it.

16. I wasn’t meaning to put down the newsworthiness of this article. It’s significant! Really, I just wish I could put off upgrading a version or two. 🙂

17. You can still do it, but the newer fusion drives have a tiny amount of SSD. When the Fusion drive first came out it was 120GB SSD/1TB HDD. Now the 1TB Fusion has only 32GB SSD. It would probably work for just the OS, but virtually nothing else. It’s better to just bite the bullet and go full SSD.

18. What I can’t seem to find anywhere is if there is any negative to leaving the Fusion drive on APFS. I have been running the beta on my iMac, so I have APFS, and now they are saying you should revert it. I don’t mind reverting it, but I haven’t seen anything explain why it isn’t supported now, just that it isn’t a supported setup. Anyone else know why I should revert it, technically?

25. I have the latest version of the Mac Mini. I got the Fusion drive because I wanted the combination of internal drive space and the speed of the SSD. When I bought it about 2-3 years ago, 1TB SSDs were a lot more expensive, and I’ve been very satisfied with how fast the Fusion drive works.

    Honestly, I have to get a better job or my wife’s online store has to take off before I look at new purchases beyond a couple hundred dollars. By that time, I’ll probably pass this system to someone and get the next iteration of Mini or go MacBook. Actually, I may be full on iPad Pro 12.9 with the work I do, and my wife will get something she wants as desktop since she is the one mostly on the Mini now.
