Petapixel:
About two years ago, I used to go about my usual everyday life like most people do, not noticing all of the beauty around me. After I picked up a camera and started taking photos of my kids, I started to see the world in a whole new way. Once you start to see it, you can’t unsee it.
Along with the previous article about “Why you should edit your photos”, here is one about the results of learning how to “see” photographically. Look at the stark difference in the “before ” and “after” shots. Most of us take the Before shot. Learn how to create the After shot.
Now if only he could learn to see the world as a designer.
Papyrus, really?
Here’s the formula for the after shots:
Use a long, fast lens to both compress the image and give it a shallower depth of field.
Shoot from a lower vantage point.
Add vignetting to focus on subject.
Change white balance and/or up the saturation to add warmth.
All useful things to know about, but the problem with the post is that it’s heavily concocted to make a point like beating folks over the head and in that sense it rings kind of false to me.
I think most people start learning to see when they realize photography and making compelling photographs has very little to do with gear. And is more about life experiences, curiosity, and imagination.
