Samsung is working on a smart speaker that will be launched “soon”, the company’s mobile chief told CNBC, which will pit it against the likes of Amazon, Apple, and Google, in the hotly-contested space.

It just occurred to me what really caused those fires was Samsung trying to use round rectangles.

What caused that was rushing to beat Apple to market without copying them properly. They seem to have learned their lesson.
They’ll announce it two days before the HomePod ships. It will have ship date of 2nd quarter 20something.
I believe Amazon centric bloggers wrote the same about Apple a few months ago.
And the selling point will be “audio quality”.
HomePod is in different market than Amazon’s.
