Brilliant. The music made it even better. I did a few VW bus transmissions many moons ago (as well as many engines) using the Idiot Book. My first one I had to wheel barrow to our local hippy garage to have them make right what I messed up. My second one worked. At the time, it felt like the greatest accomplishment of my life. I still have the book, oil soaked that it is.
This is why I don’t work on transmissions. Yikes!

Epiphany redux: These mechanical transmissions were the “arbitrary” made necessary by the prior arbitrary of the ICE—mechanical add-on solutions to prior mechanical solutions. Analogs to mechanical clocks which were ingenious and complex, and therefore prone to wear.
