Another sign of the times. Sadly, Kirk McElhearn has just turned in his last Ask the iTunes Guy column for Macworld. Another sign that the publishing market is shrinking, the indie publishing market more than most. Feh.
Side note: Kirk is a great writer with deep Apple knowledge and is looking for work. If you’ve got a gig, give him a shout.

They don’t listen to the people who read the columns anymore either. What person EVER wants an autoplay video? People also like to make comments about the story, like we are right now. On and on and on. Instead they keep focusing on ad revenue all the while driving pople away by doing so.
Ach. Kirk’s column is one of the few remaining reasons I go to Macworld.com any more. I can’t imagine they were compensating him very fairly for all his hard work.
Hope he lands someplace better, even if it’s a site with heavy user tracking and autoplay video.

Their ads are horrible and offensively stupid clickbait, their idea of commenting is a joke.
I’d rather they shut down entirely than try things like they are now, honestly, if they’re that low on funds, and can’t monetize decently.

Goddamned autoplay video: +1. Is the WebKit nightly up yet to disable those forever? I’d rather have a flaky beta browser than videos. I feel that links to Macworld should have a content warning.
Kirk’s in a better place now, even if that’s a gutter.
