Macworld:
Autoplay video: The bane of the web. You either hate them, or are completely disgusted by them. Fortunately, with Safari 11 in macOS High Sierra, you can easily disable autoplay video and surf the web in relative peace.
I hope the irony of this tip being posted on a page with autoplaying video is not lost on Macworld.
I tried contacting Macworld about their auto-play video before. The response I got was along the lines of “nobody at Macworld has any control over it, the orders to auto-play video come from our parent company”. In other words, Big Media is ruining the web.
“Big (x) is ruining (y).”
It’s a cliche because it’s true.
LOL
Surprised Macworld hasn’t been called out on this a lot more. I thought Phil was going to mention them by name at WWDC.
Macworld probably isn’t considered important enough at this point to be mentioned.
Ha Shawn, I read that article and thought exactly the same! I had to go back to Sierra because High Sierra is not ready for regular use, but when I was using it the auto-play stopper worked beautifully. I already miss it.
then why do these a holes continue to do it!? why do they hate their users so much?
Because the marketing department cares more about the advertisers than the Editorial department cares about users. Believe me, Editorial (such as it is nowadays) at Macworld hates the way marketing has taken over the web site. But they don’t have the juice to do anything about it.
