Uber started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get a ride at the push of a button? In late 2015, we hit a big milestone: one billion trips. Six months later, we crossed two billion.
And just a few weeks ago, on Saturday, May 20, 156 trips started simultaneously at 7:29:06am GMT, putting us over the five billion mark.
There is no doubt the service is successful. I would be interested to know how many trips Lyft is at—that’s the service I use the most.
I’ve been using Lyft while traveling lately and like it. Interesting note: Lyft seems to have a lot drivers who are musicians. Especially bass players.
5 billion trips! And 97% of them unprofitable!

Isn’t Lyft US-only?
I’d like to add up the complete distance Uber drivers have carried passengers, and place Kalanick there, directly above San Francisco. Without a space-suit.
Successful in growing yes, but when will they turn a profit? And when will their drivers be able to make a real living with it and have a life outside driving? The economics of Über is still to be proven. Lyft too, no doubt.
